December 2014 | Paint The Town Chic

Sugarlips Dress, Aoki Boutique | H&M Blazer, old (love this) | Booties, old | Clutch, old (love this) | Chloe + Isabel Bracelet c/o Pretty Pretty Gifts | Nikki Stark Jewellery Rings c/o (here, here, and here)

Happy New Year's Eve! We're counting down the hours before welcoming 2015 and there's no reason not to go out in style!  As soon as I saw this pretty dress at a blogger event hosted by Jess at 1822 Boutique, I knew I had to have it.  I was drawn to the print, especially the hint of metallic gold!  I also love the little cutout-nothing too daring but adds some interest to the dress. I found this dress at a local boutique carrying eclectic goodies-definitely worth a trip if you're in the Philly area!

These Nikki Stark rings may be subtle, but they make a big statement.  I''m in love with the shape of that midi ring, and the other rings have such darling details.  The best part, they can be worn on separate fingers or they can be layered!

Don't mind the windswept hair!  It was hard to keep it controlled in this weather!  I think I'm ready for a style change though!  And I had a chance to experiment with Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara and the Natural Eyes Palatte and I'm in love!  I can't wait to add them to my collection!

Cheers to 2015!

How cute is the above print?  It's definitely the theme of NYE for me!  And with New Year's around the corner, I thought it would be fun to do a post on something I love for a good party-sparkle! While I love a sequined, statement making dress, I think I'm going to play up the accessories this year.  I'm loving the jewels and shoes that would look great with a LBD!  I also love the idea of sparkle for hair with the help of a jeweled headband.  I think 2015 will be a year for more fun headbands, at least for me!

Loving all of these ideas for NYE!  Don't forget that you can also add some sparkly makeup or mani to accessorize as well!  I'm getting my nails ready to ring in the new year in style!  Hope you all enjoy the last few days of the year!

Can't believe this is the last Ipsy bag for 2014!

1.) Beauty Without Cruelty A.H.A 3% Facial Cleanser - Let's start with the hidden gem of this month's bag.  This face wash had a slight herbal scent, which reminds me of Aveda products.  This light formula made my face feel clean and wasn't overly drying, which is very important to me!  I still always use a moisturizer after washing my face.  Based on the website, looks like Beauty Without Cruelty makes a moisturizer as well!  This was my favorite item of the bag.

2.) Swissco Eyelash Curler - Of all my features, I love playing up my eyes, but I have never been one for using an eyelash curler.  So I was excited to see this as part of my Ipsy bag.  I think I have to play around with this a bit more to see if it will be part of my everyday routine!

3.) Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara - To continue with the eye makeup theme, I was excited to see this mascara in my bag!  I love Tarte products, but I haven't tried mascara from the brand yet.  I hear only good things about it, but as I have a few mascaras already open, I'm saving this for another time!

4.) Pixi by Petra Fairy Dust in Brightening Bare - I've liked other Pixi products that I've tried, but this is definitely not something I would purchase on my own.  I'm not impressed with this product. It's a loose powder that can be used as an eyeshadow or highlighter.  The color was a nice neutral (see the swatches below in natural light and then with the flash.)  It was suggested to add water to create a more intense look, but that didn't work for me.  It just didn't' blend at all with the water.  Cute packaging and the applicator didn't bother me, though some complained that it didn't pick up the product.  I like to start small and build up, so that wasn't an issue.  Some of the other shades are nice, but I probably wouldn't purchase this again!

5.) NYX Cosmetics Butter Lip Balm in Marshmallow - NYX is another brand that I've discovered through Ipsy and I'm loving everything I try!  The Lip Butter did feel like butter when applied, and my lips felt moisturized!  The color though was not so great; it was too light for my lips.  Again, disappointed that I keep receiving nude shades from Ipsy.  But I will  pick up some of the darker shades.

* Bonus * J. Cat Wonder Lip Paint in  Red Potion - I finally traded some Ipsy points for this J. Cat Lip Paint and this was the first time I used a product like this.  I read mixed reviews, so I wasn't sure what to expect.  Well...it wasn't terrible!  I already had the NYX Butter Balm on my lips, which seemed to be a good primer.  It definitely needed a lip liner to keep the product in place.  I also put a dab of the lip paint on my wrist and used my finger to apply which was a great way of building up the color to what I wanted.  I liked the color more a few hours into wearing it!  Look forward to using this more!

The December bag was simple, but cute.  Nothing special, but probably one I'll hold onto.  Overall, not an impressive month, but I'm looking forward to what Ipsy comes out with for 2015!

Victoria's Secret Reversible Top in Black Orchid Heather (on sale!) | LC Lauren Conrad Jeans, old (similar here) | Chloe + Isabel Celestial Frost Necklace, c/o Pretty Pretty Gifts | LC Lauren Conrad Tassel Necklace, old | Chloe + Isabel Retro Glam Bracelet, c/o Pretty Pretty Gifts | Fergie Heels, old | Maybelline Color Sensational in Touchable Taupe

Business in the front, party in the back.  That's the only way to describe this plum sweater!  The simple front is great to pair with a necklace or 2, just like I chose to do!    But then you get to the back and it's definitely a surprise. I can see myself adding a lace cami to make it more work appropriate and wearing the sweater as is for a night out!  I also love the shade of purple for this time of the year.  This top does run big in my opinion, and I sized down so it's more fitted.  For a looser fit, pick your normal size!

The other highlight of this outfit are the gorgeous Chloe + Isabel jewels given to me by the wonderful Danielle of Pretty Pretty Gifts (www.prettyprettygifts.com)!  Check out this previous blog post to find out why Danielle is a unique seller.  I've had such a fun time pairing these jewels with various outfits, and though they seem fancy, they can be paired with just about any outfit.  The best part about the necklace-the pendant comes off which makes the chain the perfect layering necklace.

And lastly, if you're looking for the perfect nude lippy, look no further! I've been doing some experimenting with lipcolors through my trusty Maybelline (since I'm afraid to shell out the big bucks on colors I may not love!)  It seems great too.  I definitely recommend the line if you want to experiment with colors!

BB Dakota Clarissa Dress, sold out but this has a similar fit |  H&M Coat, on sale (runs small in my opinion!) | Apt 9 Crossbody used as Clutch | Booties, old | Necklaces, old

Happy Christmas Eve!!  Today I wanted to share a holiday look featuring one of my favorite  dresses.  This BB Dakota dress was a lucky find from 1822 Boutique!  From the gorgeous print to the structured full skirt, I fell in love with the glam look and couldn't leave the store without it!  I'm also loving metallic details on prints, so this dress was perfect.  Can't wait to try pairing a sweater over the dress for a winter look.

I also love big statement jewels!  But it doesn't make my wallet happy to buy a new piece every time I have somewhere to go.  Lately I've been experimenting with some of my jewelry to create new looks, similar to what I tried below.  I took 2 separate necklaces and came up with a new look.  It's a great way to recycle old pieces but also create a fresh unique look!

I can't wait to share more about my new collab with 1822 Boutique!  Stay tuned for more info soon...

Can you believe that December is already almost over and the holidays are very quickly approaching?  This really is one of my favorite times of the year-the decorations, the food, the cheerful moods, and the excuse for shopping makes this a perfect start to the season!  I had a blast coming up with my fall bucket list, so I figured it was only appropriate to come up with a few things that I must do (or wear) over this upcoming winter!

10. Dinner Party with Friends
It's a tradition for my friends and I to have Thanksmas, our version of Friendsgiving!  We pick a weekend sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas to hang out, cook together and enjoy an amazing meal!  And it was amazing, just like I thought it would be.

9. Wear Something Furry (Faux of course)
I'm loving the fur vests and coats that I'm seeing these days.  They look so cute with swing dresses or even a blouse and jeans.  I have to get my hands on something with fur before winter is over.

8. Go to a Hockey Game
I love going to live sporting events, but hockey is one of those sports that I've only watched on TV.  I would love to make it to a game this year though!

7. Add More Green To My Wardrobe
Green is one of those colors that I associate with this time of year, and I'm talking the deep, rich shades, like hunter green or forest green!  I've been wanting a green dress for a while...

6. Work off Holiday Calories
Spring is coming, just saying...

5. Take a Trip to NYC
I live just a few hours away from New York, and I have yet to see the Rockettes and participate in other holiday attractions.  It's something I've always wanted to do, so maybe this will be the year...

4. Make Gingerbread Cookies
I love gingerbread cookies!  So this year, I'm trying my hand at making these yummy cookies.  And yes, I might be cheating the first time with a little help from Betty Crocker!

3. Wear More Fun Socks
I love wearing cozy socks, but I've never coordinated my socks with my footwear!  There are so many options.  One of my inspirations is this look from Haute Off The Rack!  Such a fun look, I think it's finally time to try some different looks incorporating socks!

2. Visit local holiday attractions
As much as I love NYC, Philly has so many great holiday events as well.  Some of my favorites include the light show at the Wannamaker Building and the Christmas Tree lighting.  This year, I'd love to see A Longwood Christmas at Longwood Gardens!

1. Holiday Movie Marathon
There's nothing better than curling up on the could for a movie marathon, especially during the winter.  And it's so fun to watch all of the holiday movies In fact, it's not Christmas without watching Home Alone at least once this month.  But I also love all the other classics like Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman.  And of course there is It's A Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street and the list goes on!

What special things are you planning to do this winter?

Today I wanted to share a quick post about mixing prints.  I've been loving the challenge of combining prints that may not seem to go together at first.  And I think I've come across my new favorite combo!  There's something about Aztec prints that make it perfect for winter...maybe it's the fact that many warm sweaters come with this print!  A new trick I learned with print mixing is to match colors, not the prints.  Now that's something that is easy to follow!

I've had both of these pieces for a while, but I thought it would be fun to pair together.  Clearly the colors matched, and the striped dress was a little more subtle and complimented the Aztec nicely!

Dress, old (love this and this) |  Piper Boutique Sweater, old (similar here) | Old Navy Necklace, old

Such a fun outfit for a Friday!  Can't wait to concoct a new print combo.  Hope you all enjoy the weekend!

Today, we're talking all things Golden Tote.  In fact, I'm currently wearing one of my tote pieces as I write this, and it may be one of my favorites!!  Don't know what Golden Tote is?  It's only one of my favorite subscription services out there!  Totes are released the first Monday of the month and there are two totes you can choose from:

$49-You choose 1 item and will be surprised with 1-2 additional items with a value of $200!
$149-You choose 2 items and will be surprised with 3-5 additional items with a value of $600!

You can see some previous tote reviews here and here!

My last tote was back in June, but I held off the past few months to save money.  Of course there are some pieces that I need to track down now.  I was very anxious to get the December tote because it was a bday present to myself and they offered a great Cyber Monday deal of an extra surprise item!  Plus there was a great selection of chosen items this time around.  What I love about GT and the Sarah(s) who curate them is that they choose trendy items as well as classic pieces, so a larger audience can purchase totes.  Let's get to my chosen items!

Tis The Season Dress

This was chosen #1.  I knew I needed this the moment I saw it!  While many are wearing this for New Years, I think I'm saving this up for a 1920s party we'll be hosting for work next year!  Styled with a fun headband and pumps, I think it will be perfect.

Snuggly Striped Sweater

This was chosen #2!  I was on the fence between this and the Winter Wonderland Top, but I'm so glad I snagged this.  It's pretty true to size and soooo snuggly! Just get this and you'll understand why it's so amazing!

And on to my surprises.  I did sneak a peek at my codes, and I was a bit disappointed at first sight.  I was pleasantly surprised after trying my surprises on though.  I have gotten better curated totes in the past!  But for me, the whole point of getting a Golden Tote is to go beyond my comfort zone and try new things.

Catwalk Studio Belted Surplice Dress in Ivory

At first, I did not want this dress.  But it's my favorite surprise this month!  GT has made me love wrap dresses!  It's so flattering, soft and comfy.  I can't wait to wear it.  I'm glad I received the ivory.  I just got a pair of plum tights that would look great with it, but leopard leggings and boots would be fun too!

Catwalk Colorblock Pocket Sweater

I'm on the fence with this one.  It's the most darling sweater, but it's one size fits all!  Clothes really shouldn't be one size fits all.  The sleeves are a bit too large and even layering underneath doesn't help much.  The colors are so pretty together though, making it the perfect fall sweater!

Vanilla Bay Pattern Pocket Top

This top is a winner...after you put it on!  At first sight, it doesn't seem like anything special.  But it has a great fit and the chevron is really pretty! Can't wait to wear this!

Chris & Carol Striped Shirt

As someone who doesn't wear stripes often, there are way too many striped pieces in my tote!  While this top wasn't terrible, it's definitely not a favorite.  I'm hoping to trade it for something I like more, but I could see myself wearing it if I can't trade or sell it.  It is a comfy tee and has a cute detail in the back!

Skies Are Blue Floral Top

I liked this more in person than the photos, but there's just something about it that I don't like.  The floral print is pretty, and I'm usually a fan of florals! I think the lace was too much for a busy print.  Unfortunately, my top was damaged.  I'm waiting to hear back from Customer Service, but I've only heard great things about their service so I'm not worried about getting it replaced!

The bag isn't so bad itself!

December Golden Tote is Here!
