2018 | Paint The Town Chic
Happy National Cookie Day! I wanted to try something a little different here on Paint The Town Chic and share a recipe that I tried out today to celebrate one of my favorite sweet treats!

I've made oatmeal raisin cookies before using the recipe found on Quaker Oats containers but I modified it to create something a little new this time.
Oatmeal Coconut Toffee Crunch Cookies

Ingredients

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
3 cups rolled oats
2 cups toffee chocolate chips
1 cup shredded coconut
1/4 chopped almonds (optional)
1-2 scoops Wellness Please Collagen (optional, more on this below!)

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2. In a large bowl mix butter, brown sugar and white sugar until smooth.  Beat eggs in individually, then add vanilla extract, milk, cinnamon and Wellness Please collagen.  Mix in flour, all-purpose flour and salt. Then stir in oats, coconut, toffee chips and almonds.

3. Drop spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. I recommend flattening them into more of a cookie shape rather than balls because they do not expand much.

4. Bake for 10-14 minutes.

5. Let cool and enjoy!

That's it.  These were so easy to make and you can modify this recipe to your liking. You can add or take away the chocolate, nuts and coconut!
As mentioned above, I also added in some scoops of Wellness Please Collagen to my recipe.  Why is collagen important? It can help strengthen keratin, increases skin moisture content, increases muscle strength, improves circulation, aids in controlling high blood pressure and so much more. There is no taste and it's so easy to incorporate into your diet.

This was my first time using the collagen so I wanted to test it out, but after reading up on the benefits of collagen and finding that it didn't alter the taste of my food, I will definitely be using it daily.
I'm now off to enjoy more of my cookies!  Let me know what kinds of recipes you'd like to see more of!

I received a complimentary sample of Wellness Please Collagen to try and share. All opinions shared above are my own.

The past 2 weeks I've been working with Aerie and it's been one of the best experiences in my blogging experience to date.
A few months ago an email popped up in my inbox about an opportunity to be an Aerie ambassador for their holiday pop-up tour.  I had heard about last year's pop-up and obviously I was intrigued enough to apply. Fast forward to a few weeks ago and I was meeting up with the other 3 amazing Philly Aerie ambassadors for a quick photoshoot to promo the event!
Meet Molly | Thing Weinberg, Rea | What Would Rea Do, and Cait | Salt Water Chic, the amazing Philly ambassadors!
Yesterday, we attended the pop-up in Dilworth Park. Inside the cutest trailer was a selection of Aerie goodies like the comfiest joggers, bralettes, sweaters, and more.  The best part was that Aerie donated half of the sales made during the pop-up to Women's Way, a local non-profit.  It was amazing to see all kinds of women shopping and truly loving the brand and what it stands for.

Twinning with Rea!
I've tried a variety of Aerie products and am truly a fan.  At the pop-up I bought the cutest sherpa sweatshirt that is unfortunately sold out, but I've linked some of my favorite pieces below.

I am beyond obsessed with this scarf, and particularly in the color way. I've never seen a purple blanket scarf and this shade is really pretty.
Aerie makes print mixing so easy! You can't go wrong with a little plaid and striped combo for winter.
Every weekend you can find me wearing matching jammie sets, and this plush shirt and legging combo is the comfiest thing ever.
Shop My Aerie Favorites

I'm so thankful to collaborate with brands like Aerie who create a community of positive, empowering, and inspiring women.  I couldn't have asked for a better group of girls to work with. If you have a chance to be an ambassador, I highly recommend it!
I'm now on a mission to try all the Aerie things. Leave your recommendations below or message me on Insta!
Until next time...

I'm so excited that I've already gotten a head start on my holiday shopping.  While browsing, I came across two really cute brands from a company called Wild and Wolf that make stocking stuffers any fashionista would want to receive.  The first is Pretty Useful Tools which has stylish and functional beauty, home, travel, outdoor and barware accessories!  I'm also obsessed with Yes Studio which is full of outspoken accessories, drinkware and stationery.  Here are some of my favorite items from both of these below.

1. Pretty Useful Tools Power Bank and Mirror
For someone always on the go, there's no such thing as too many power banks.  This Pretty Useful Tools Power Bank is the perfect size for any purse, and bonus it comes with a mirror!  I love the saving on the front - Thrive In The Urban Jungle! Also, how cute is the box that this is packaged in?

2. Yes Studio Blink Water Bottle
I love items that are functional and even better when they are so cute!  This Yes Studio bottle is one that I want to keep at my desk at work and take it wherever I go, like the gym.  This bottle works for both hot and cold beverages.  Bonus that reusable water bottles are a sustainable gift idea.

3. Yes Studio No Filter Pocket Compact
Since we're on the subject of things I want to take everywhere, this compact has immediately gone into my bag.  It's a fun yet functional item to gift.  How pretty is the rose gold trim?

4. Pretty Useful Tools Beauty Multi-Tools
This multi-purpose tool is small, but it contains a travel mirror, comb, nail file, nail scissors, clipper and tweezers.  Everything you need for emergencies.  Also, have I mentioned the cute packaging Pretty Useful Tools has?!

5. Yes Studio Things I Can't Say Out Loud Pen and Case
Yes Studio always has witty and playful sayings, and that is what caught my eye here.  It's the perfect accessory for any writer, blogger, teacher friends you may have, or really anyone who appreciates cute stationary and office supplies.

In additional to the website, be sure to check out Yes Studio and Pretty Useful Tools on Instagram for more gifting ideas! There are so many cute items in addition to what I selected above.  I would love to know which item you'd want to gift this season?

Thank you to Yes Studios and Pretty Useful Tools for partnering with me to bring you this post.  Items were gifted, but all opinions are my own.

Holiday Shopping at Boscov's; Christmas Trees at Boscov's
Holiday shopping can be stressful, even for someone like me who lives for shopping. This year I got a head start on my list by heading for some pre-Black Friday browsing at my local Boscov's.  I had not been to a Boscov's in a while and was thrilled by the amount of amazing deals all over the store - literally every time I turned there was something that caught my eye.

Obviously my first stop was the holiday section.  There is a small window of opportunity where it's appropriate to enjoy all the decor and I've been gathering up pieces to fully decorate this week.  My Boscov's had a small holiday section but it had all the necessary items like trees (decorated and un-decorated), ornaments, figurines and more.  My obsession this year is nutcrackers - how cute are these?!
Holiday Christmas decor at Boscov's
Even as a little girl, one of my favorite sections has always been the chocolate counter.  It has a vintage feel and so many delicious options!  Plus, as I've said before on Instagram, chocolate is one of my favorite things to gift and receive around the holidays because who doesn't love that!

Another gifting staple - candles!  They perfect stocking stuffer and addition to any gift!
Yankee Candles at Boscov's
Great finds, but of course I had to go find the clothes and accessories! At the top of my list are sweaters!  I like to buy pieces that can be used right away, so sweaters are an obvious choice for this crazy weather we are already having.  I found so many cute options, including a sweater I chose for myself that I will be sharing on the blog soon.
Sweaters at Boscov's
You can't go wrong with purses!  I ended up getting this gorgeous Vince Camuto bag for myself (at 75% off), and a few other really cute crossbody bags as gifts!  I'm really loving burgundy and let's just say that my mom, sister and I will be matching in shades of red!

If you're looking for stocking stuffers, Boscov's has that too.  I spotted Pashmina scarves in a variety of colors, cozy socks and hats/gloves all for under $5!

Cozy winter socks at Boscov's
The beauty and shoe departments also have great options, but I didn't spend too much time there - I'll be back another day!

Philly-area friends, I stopped by the Plymouth Meeting Mall to find these deals, but you can find your closest location here.  In addition to the great prices, Boscov's offers free gift wrapping which is so handy!  They also have convenient services like gift registry to create any wish lists and the opportunity to buy online and pickup in-store. All the little details matter because they make shopping around the holidays more enjoyable!

Thank you Boscov's for helping me check things off my holiday list!

Sweater Dress c/o | Boots, old | Coat, old
Ladies, I can't even begin to tell you how long I searched for the perfect sweater dress.  Everything I came across was either too short (even on someone petite like me) or too tight.  Sweater dresses in my mind are meant to be cozy and slightly oversized - and I found just that at Universal Standard!
I'm wearing the Wheaton Sweater Dress in midnight blue, and the rich blue shade screams fall.  It pairs perfectly with tans and browns, which is why I chose these boots and floral jacket!

Luckily the length was long enough to be a dress on me.  For taller gals, just add leggings or layer over another dress!
Obviously the words sweater and cozy go together, and that is indeed the case with this dress.  The turtleneck is warm without being constricting.  The material is also very comfortable.
Did I mention that this dress leaves room for any sort of food belly? Just another reason why this is the perfect choice for Thanksgiving.

This sweater dress also comes in a black and magenta.  Universal Standard has a few other options, which I've tagged below!

Shop The Post

I've talked about Universal Standard before (see my previous review here), but I wanted to give a quick shoutout to this amazing brand that celebrates body positivity.  The sizing goes up to a 32.  And the pieces are really great quality - I know they will last a while and still look as good as new.  Both the quality and the mission make it worth shopping at Universal Standard!

What do you think about a sweater dress for Thanksgiving? It's a top contender for me, but I do have a few other ideas as well...

Happy Halloween! This is the first year in a long while that I've really gotten to enjoy all things Halloween.  Last year my sister and I made the short trip to Sleepy Hollow, less than an hour away from New York City and had a blast but quickly learned that EVERYTHING sells out in October.  This year we really wanted to take advantage and properly plan a trip!

Since I go to NYC often enough, an old co-worker had mentioned a jack o'latern festival that was worth visiting.  After further investigation, I learned that The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze is a popular yearly family-friendly experience that has been happening for 14 years!
You may be wondering why I'm still talking about jack o'lanterns if Halloween is today, but luckily Blaze goes on until November 24.  There are over 7,000 pumpkins in the entire display which is huge.

My favorite exhibit was the planetarium.
I'm still amazed at how detailed this pumpkin carvings are. I wouldn't even know where to begin carving them.
The creations these artists come up with are really amazing.  Photos don't do this displays justice, especially the ones that involved motion like the Planetarium.  I shared just a few  of my favorites, but the exhibits are worth seeing in person, so I recommend getting tickets and making it a fun trip.

I'm answering a few more questions that I thought of when planning my trip, but feel free to comment on the post or email if you have more questions!

How Do I Get There?
Obviously driving is ideal and free parking is available for ticket-holders, but we made the short trip on the Metro North. It was just under $25 a person, but the train goes along the Hudson River and the views are beautiful!

What Else Is There To Do There?
Honestly we didn't do much exploring in the area.  I came across this article from Historic Hudson Valley with some options but at first glance, there wasn't anything in the immediate area for people on foot!

However a quick train/Uber ride away is Sleepy Hollow. I really loved that town and there's quite a few things to do there, but that's for another post.

Where Do I Eat?
There is not much in the area.  But we did come across a little Hibachi place within walking distance that was cheap and so delicious!

Let me know if you decide to check out Blaze!

Watching Halloween Movies with Candy
As someone who DOESN'T have cable, the one thing I do miss every holiday season is Freeform's Halloween movie schedule.  Luckily I have Netflix, Hulu and Prime so I don't feel like I'm missing out on too much.  I do have a list of movies/shows that I like watch each October.  If you're a true Halloween fan, you've probably seen all of these, but I've rounded up my recommendations to get you in the spirit on Halloween and even after!

What To Watch On Halloween

Hocus Pocus
Hocus Pocus is THE quintessential Halloween movie. I've already watched it 3 times this month, but really, is there such a thing as too much Hocus Pocus?  It's so comical and has a great cast!

The Nightmare Before Christmas
Another classic (though I prefer The Corpse Bride.)  I love the animation and story for both!

Haunted Mansion
This is so cheesy, yet it entertains me every time. Plus I'm a sucker for all things Disney and this is no exception!

The Witches
This Angelica Houston classic is one that I had forgotten about until my sister resurrected it last Halloween.  Worth watching if you haven't seen it in a while (or at all!)

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Netflix has really come through this Halloween and I just finished watching the new version of Sabrina.  It is so different from the comedy I grew up with.  However I loved how dark and chilling this was and after the ending, I am ready for Season 2 to happen right now.  With just 10 episodes, it's easy to get through the series quickly and I definitely recommend it to any Riverdale fans.

The Haunting of Hill House
If you're wondering what I'll be doing tomorrow, I'll be eating all the Oreo candy bars and watching The Haunting of Hill House.  I have gotten so many recommendations for this so obviously I've been saving the best for last!

Laura / Charade
If you're a fan of classic movies and/or looking for something a little different, these two are some of my favorites! Laura is film noir and Charade features my favorite Audrey Hepburn.  They are both more mysterious than spooky but so good.

The list could go on and on.  I know the Halloween movie/show list is pretty extensive, but I'm not into super-scary, gory, creepy movies.  I would love to know your recommendations because I'm always looking for new things to watch!

Green Target Floral Midi Skirt

Green Target Floral Midi Skirt

Hey guys, happy Sunday!  I'm back with a blog post featuring an outfit I've been wanting to share from over the summer.  I've been neglecting my blog due to being busy with personal things like job hunting and helping plan and present at another PHLBloggers event, but this break away was really refreshing and I'm ready to share new content!

We're in the middle of my favorite season, but the weather has been temperamental so far this fall!  It's hard to dress when the weather goes from hot to cold and back again.  For the most part, I try to wear my favorite pieces year round, just styled appropriately for each season.  And that goes for this colorful skirt.  I shot the outfit above over the summer, but it was one of my favorite outfits and shoots so I still wanted to share.  With a few adjustments, I can still wear the skirt now.

Keep reading for styling tips and a roundup of previous outfits!

Tips For Styling A Skirt For Fall

How To Style A Colorful Skirt For Fall

Oversized Sweater
Something I am loving is pairing an oversized sweater or cardigan with a skirt.  But really any cozy sweater will work.  If you have a very colorful skirt, I suggest pairing with a neutral sweater.  You can't go wrong with black or tan.  But I'm not afraid to pair colorful pieces together as well.

I do have an outfit in mind that I can't wait to share on the blog soon featuring one of my favorite fall prints!

Jacket
My cold-weather uniform usually includes a denim or moto jacket! You can't go wrong with a layers!  You can really have fun with the different styles of jackets available - cropped, oversized, embroidered, different colors, the list goes on. In fact, I've been looking for a forest green moto jacket for a while now and this may be the year that I finally get one!

Boots
Whether you're pairing with boots or booties, no fall outfit is complete without a pair of this fall staple.  I'm a sucker for brown riding boots, OTK boots, and a neutral bootie.

Accessories
Top off with hats and scarves as well.  A blanket scarf instantly transforms an outfit, and hats are something I'm recently getting into that are such a fun accessory.  I'm really into burgundy right now - I've got my eye on some burgundy floppy hats!
