Have you ever experienced sugaring before? Read on and I'll tell you all about the benefits of this hair removal process that has been around for centuries!

Many of you out there will agree with me that beauty is pain. Hair removal is one of those beauty services that is a must for me, but my shaving routine is so time consuming. I had heard about sugaring, and recently had the opportunity to learn more about it though an invite to Philly's new Sugar Bar Salon!
Before I get into how cute Sugar Bar Philly is and my particular experience, you may be wondering what sugaring is. Sugaring is an alternative to waxing that only uses three products - sugar, lemon juice and water! No strips necessary, making it a more sustainable option. Sugaring also has other great benefits that really caught my attention!

Benefits of Sugaring vs. Waxing
  • Less painful
  • Hair grow back slower, and softer, than traditional waxing
  • Not scalding hot - the sugaring mixture used is body temperature
  • Not extra sticky and can be removed easily with water
  • Doesn't pull off skin
  • It may even offer better results than waxing or shaving
  • Natural and more sustainable option
So having experienced the more painful option and the more time consuming option, and after reading up on the benefits, I knew sugaring sounded like the procedure for me!
Sugar Bar Salon is located in Rittenhouse, and as soon as you enter the door, you are welcomed into the cutest space. That definitely put me more at ease, and Alex, the Head Esthetician, was so friendly! You are also welcomed with a drink from their cute drink station!
Tucked further in are the beautiful private rooms.

I decided to try a Brazilian Sugaring, which took about 20 minutes. I like to think that I have a high tolerance for pain, but I will tell you that this did sting a bit. However the pain did not linger, unlike with waxing. The 20 minutes did go by quickly and they make sure to check on you throughout the process!

Those 20 minutes of pain are worth it because the results last! Once my appointment was over, Alex made sure to go over after care and next steps. It's recommended to stick to a regular schedule, of 4-6 weeks, to maintain that slower hair growth.

I'm a few weeks into my sugaring and I can attest to the longevity of the results! I will say that new hair growth can be a little itchy, but that is my only complaint! They are now carrying PFB sugaring aftercare products, so that's something I will look into for next time.
Sugar Bar Salon is offering a few specials, including a buy one get second half off Brazilian Sugaring! They offer a variety of sugaring areas and some packages as well, which you can check out here. I have to say that for being in the Rittenhouse area, they are very affordable and the results are worth the price.

It's always important to treat yourself and make self-care part of your lifestyle, and I can see sugaring becoming one of those self-care treatments for me!

Both the benefits and my personal experience have turned me into a sugaring convert. Would you try sugaring?
