May 2014 | Paint The Town Chic
It may not be June yet, but it sure feels like summer is here on the East Coast.  The muggy weather and grey skies were the perfect reason to brighten up the day with yellow; today's StyleMeMay challenge of Not So Mellow Yellow may have also helped ;)

My new love is tassels...and when I saw this pearl tassel necklace, I couldn't pass it up.   Bonus, it's by my favorite Kohls brand, LC Lauren Conrad!

LC Lauren Conrad Long Tassel Pendant, Kohls

I loved the gold heel detail so much that I snatched up the last pair at my local store!

Dolea Sandals, Aldo

Yes, I may have styled my outfit around these shoes.....but I just can't get enough yellow and gold in my life these days!  On the search to add more yellow accessories to my closet!

Now that it's Memorial Day weekend, summer is just around the corner and I for one am looking forward to a fun filled season! I thought it would be appropriate to share some of my favorite red, white and blue accessories, perfect for Memorial Day and July 4th!

Who doesn't love a good pop of red.  In fact, I own 2 pairs of red flats and a new pair of red earrings from Bauble Bar, just to name  a few recent acquisitions!  Here are some other looks I'm loving right now.

MeDusa Slim Clutch, Boticca                             Gimme Stripes Ballet Flats, Amazon

Can't go wrong with white during the summer.  Loving these looks!

White Off Shoulder Ruffle Dress, Choies           Layered Lace Midi Skirt, DailyLook

I love all shades of blue, but especially this cobalt blue which has been popping up all over!

Kensie Floral Lace Dress, Macy's         Crystal Tulip Collar Necklace, Bauble Bar

  Alexandra Mid-Heel Slingback, Sole Society

I don't usually wear clothes with the stars and stripes, but I loved this heart tank!

Heart Flag Tee, Shop Bella C

Can't forget those delicious sweet treats either...

You can find the recipe for these Red, White and Blueberry Popsicles here!

If you like what you see, please be sure to follow me on Instagram and Bloglovin!  Hope you ladies have a fantastic Memorial Day!

I had a busy, busy week so sorry for the delay in posts, especially this review on my first Golden Tote purchase!  I love the idea of subscription boxes (i.e. my recent obsession with Ipsy) so I decided to go on a whim and test out Golden Tote.  For those of you unfamiliar with Golden Tote, it is a fashion subscription started by the designers of Puella!  Every month you have the opportunity to purchase two different totes:

$49-You choose 1 item and will be surprised with 1-2 additional items with a value of $200!
$149-You choose 2 items and will be surprised with 3-5 additional items with a value of $600!

I decided to go with the $149 tote because there were 2 items I really wanted!  Here's my tote!

My picks...

Handkerchief Dress
From the first spoiler, I knew I  had to have this dress.  It's so far from my comfort zone, but there were so many elements I loved about it.  The mixed prints, the length and the wrap detail in the front, all so cute!  This was my first chosen item.

Easy Embroidered Maxi
The other item that I chose this month was this adorable maxi.  Loved the tribal detailing at the top and the color of the skirt, which is more green than I expected!  After seeing it in person, it's actually fancier than I would have liked, but I'm sure I'll have special events to wear this to.

 The Surprises... Speckled Tank
This tank was one of my surprise items!  Aside from the Handkerchief Dress, this was my other favorite item of the tote.  It's so colorful and I loved the braided detailing.  I already have the perfect teal high-lo skirt that I must wear it with.  It is very sheer, so I will have to play around with it and see if it can be worn to work as well!

Naked Zebra Black Dress
This is the most darling dress and a perfect summer LBD.  The problem is...it doesn't fit, at all.  I've seen other Golden Toters mention that this dress (and maybe other pieces from this brand) run small.  If any of you ladies are interested in acquiring this piece, send me an email!

Priddy by Puella Eyelet Dress
This dress was specially made for Golden Tote!  It is a bit short, but would make a great beach coverup!  I absolutely love the eyelet detailing and the soft material of the dress, but it just doesn't seem to work for my body.  This is the other piece I have up for sale or trade!

Priddy by Puella Swing Top
I was back and forth on this top.  Loved the stripes and the pop of coral, but at first glance it seemed to be shapeless.  Well, this was the first piece I wore from my tote and I am obsessed.  It is so comfortable and will be getting a lot of use this summer.  This brand can be found in Anthropologie and comes in different colors.  This is my favorite combo for the summer!

The Pros of Golden Tote:
-Before you purchase a tote, you do fill out a style profile, which Golden Tote will use to determine your surprise items!
-The Golden Tote community is very supportive and there is a Trading Group if there is an item you'd like to sell or trade!

The Cons of Golden Tote:
It's all or nothing.  If you don't like your tote, you need to return everything.

They also share sneak peeks before a new tote launch.  A few June sneak peeks have just been released, and I can't wait to see the rest!  This in particular is really intriguing me...

I will be sharing more photos as I style these pieces throughout the coming weeks!  I had so much fun seeing how fellow subscribers styled these pieces and to see what items they chose and received.  It's worth trying out at least once just to see what it's all about.  If you do decide to try Golden Tote, I would love for you to use my link and please share what you think about it!  I would also appreciate if you follow me on Instagram and Bloglovin to get the most up-to-date posts!

Tassel accessories are on point this season and I'm loving it more and more!  I now have two gorgeous items in my growing collection and I have my eye on a few other pieces...

This necklace was the first tassel piece!  It was a lucky find from Burlington Coat Factory!  I just loved the color of the deep purple and the long length of the chain.  This would look great with a plain white tee and jeans or a jazzing up solid colored dress!  I'll be styling it soon so be on the lookout to see what it's paired with!

Tassel Necklace, Burlington

This amazing Alexandra Tassel Necklace is heading my way!  Yellow is one of my favorite colors to style right now, so my head is spinning with ideas on how to wear this.  If you want to score the very last necklace (the pink one sold out immediately!), be sure to hop on to the Charming Finds Instagram and grab it now.  She also has an amazing website, so check it out in the link below.

Alexandra Tassel Necklace, Charming Finds

I love these green and gold tassel earrings.  They would go great with either a casual or dressy outfit.
Green and Gold Tassel Drops, T&J Designs

On a recent trip to H&M, I came across this hot pink should bag and knew I had to have it (being the last one in the store also helped speed up that decision!)  I think I'll be using this as a clutch at an event I'm attending later this month, but I love the option of using it as a shoulder bag as well!  There are still some left in black if you hurry over to the website!
Shoulder Bag, H&M

This clutch is so perfect for beach trips this summer!  Love the casual look and the braided detail!  I think it would look perfect with the white dresses I have in the closet...

Braid Tassel Clutch, Calypso St. Barth

The tassel detailing is a perfect way to freshen up accessories!  What tassels are you sporting these days?

Word on the street is that people aren't happy with this month's Ipsy Bag.  The theme was Fresh Picks and the products selected were mostly skincare items.  While it wasn't as good as last month, I enjoyed trying the selection I received.  Though my hair could have used some love as I didn't get any hair care products this month like I had hoped!

May Ipsy Bag!

1.) Hey Honey Take It Off Exfoliating Honey Peel Off Mask

I was most excited to try this item from the May bag and I have to say it's my favorite!  I followed the instructions of moisturizing, applying the mask and leaving for 20 minutes, and then moisturizing again and my skin felt so clean and fresh!  It smelled great and was easy to use.  I was pleasantly surprised that the mask actually peeled off unlike others I have used, though I did a quick rinse to make sure everything came off!  A day later and my skin still feels great and not as oily as usual.  The sample may look small, but I can still get a few more uses out of it!  I would definitely consider purchasing the full size!

2.) Pur~Lisse Pur~Moist Hydra Balance Moisturizer

As soon as I pulled this out of the bag, I was a little turned off by this product because it said normal-dry and anti-aging.  As someone in her 20s, anti-aging products don't quite appeal to me yet, but the more disappointing fact is that this is for people with normal to dry skin.  Having oily to combination skin, this is the exact opposite of what I should be using!  I was curious about the fact that it went on like a gel, so I gave it a try and the results weren't bad.  It goes on nice and does make my skin feel moisturized, but I won't be buying this product again unless there is an option for my skin type!

3.) Avene Thermal Spring Water

Before Ipsy I had never seen this product, so I was intrigued by it.  As someone with problem skin, my makeup tends to wear off throughout the day and I'm always on the lookout for products that will prolong my made-up face!  The mist is very refreshing, and I can see how this will be handy all summer for travel and for touch-ups as I attend a lot of evening events for work and don't usually have time to redo my makeup.  The jury is still out on this...but it does look promising!

4.) Jersey Shore Sun Sans Tan Anti-Aging Sunscreen

This is the second anti-aging product I got in my bag (I better check my profile again!!)  This sunscreen uses all natural products, and you can smell it when applied.  Olive oil is a main ingredient, and I while I love olive oil for many reasons, I don't love smelling like it!  On the upside, it does spread nicely and absorbs quickly!  Not sure that I will be purchasing this product at the moment.

5.) Pacifica Mineral Eyeshadow Duo #1

This Ipsy exclusive eyeshadow duo was the only makeup product I got this month and the colors are ones I will actually wear. I'm loving the copper color.  Seems light enough to wear to work, but I think you can build up the color to get a more dramatic look too.  Eyeshadow isn't my favorite makeup product, but I'm sure this will be getting some use as there will be a lot of events to attend this summer!

I'm already anxious for sneak peeks for next month.  If you're interested in joining Ipsy, I would love for you to use my link!  If you received a May bag, how did your product selections?

I've been trying to keep up with Style Me May, Hilary Rushford's fun Instagram style challenge!  Today's challenge was to wear something owned for the last 5 years.  I love getting new clothes, but sometimes it's hard for me to let go of things I already own. So needless to say, this challenge wasn't too hard to accomplish.  I decided to style this purple graphic print dress and a pair of ivory kitten heels, both of which I've owned for a while now.

Love the print and the colors together.  And the dress has pockets...jackpot!  Paired it with a simple gold chain because the dress didn't need any distracting jewels!

I love pointed toe shoes of all types and the nude is pretty flattering with most dresses.  I'm glad my older dresses are still getting some love!  Are any of you participating in Style Me May?

Since I've been blogging for a few months now, I wanted to share some fun facts about myself and my style must haves!

1.) I'm addicted to dresses.

Minis, maxis, and everything in between, I love them all.  I love all prints, colors and styles and am always on the lookout for the newest addition to my collection.  Apparently I've loved dresses since I was a little girl who refused to wear pants.  I guess some things never change...

A small sample of the dresses in my closet

2.) I love prints.

The bolder the print, I'm more I love it.  I'm always searching for the most unique prints that may be challenging to style.  Right now, I'm especially loving black and white prints that I can style with colorful shoes and jewelry!  And of course florals - which are necessary for the season!

A selection of my favorite prints right now

3.) My first job was silk-screening!

I've never had a "normal" teenage job.  My first job was at a museum and workshop where I learned how to silkscreen.  I designed my own pattern, screen printed it on fabric and learned about everything in between.  I think that experience really sparked my love of fashion and design.  Though I work in the event planning and marketing industry, updating this blog keeps me involved in the fashion world!

Would love to try my hand at designing a print again...so much fun!

4.) My favorite accessories are earrings!

I always love accessorizing with jewelry, but my favorite type is earrings.  Right now I can't get enough of statement earrings and love pairing them with fun prints.  As I look through my collection, it looks like I'm missing a few colors-I guess it's time for more scouting!

My recent acquisitions!  Can't wait to style them!

5.) I can't live without mascara!

While I like playing around with makeup, my day to day look is pretty minimal.  But I cannot leave the house with my go-to beauty product-mascara!  I'm always on the lookout for the best product out there (any suggestions ladies??!!)  I always have Maybelline Falsies on hand, but my new love is Benefit They're Real!  I also highly suggest a primer to go along with mascara; I use Dior and it hasn't steered me wrong.  Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Some of mascaras right now!

Thanks for reading!  I would love to read about your fashion fun facts in the comments below!
