Spring is just around the corner...and with that comes the itch to throw out the old and bring in the new.  For me, I really wanted to do something different with my hair.  My length was getting boring and I had been wanting to add a natural highlight as well.  Luckily I had the opportunity to collaborate with Andre Richard Salon, a staple in the hair scene in Philly, to come up with a new do!

As soon as I walked in, the salon was such a cute and intimate space and the staff was so welcoming.  First impressions are everything, especially in a place like a hair salon!

Something I was really looking forward to was using Redken products again.  I may be dating myself, but I was obsessed with Redken back in high school, and I know the brand has evolved since my high school days (and I do have a connection to the brand though my current job which has rekindled my interest in them as well.)  This wall at Andre Richard Salon is a Redken lovers dream!

My appointment was with Ryan, and I knew from the beginning that I would be in good hands.  I usually bring photo inspiration whenever I go to a salon, but this time I kept my options open!  I knew I wanted a trim of some sort, and Ryan added some pretty layers throughout which made a huge difference!

The color was subtle and the perfect transition to spring.  Of course I want to go lighter, but I refuse to bleach my hair (made that mistake back in the day!) so I'm happy with these gradual changes.  Ryan took time and care to hand paint the highlights.

Freshly done hair always appears darker, but here is the final look!

I also go the low down on Ryan's must have products that work for any and every hair type.  Can I just say I'm officially obsessed with One United, which has so many different benefits, plus smells amazing.  Tip: start your hair routine with this handy spray.

It's been a few weeks now and I'm having so much fun styling my hair!  Curly or straight, the color and length is perfect.

Rootie The Rootlifter c/o

Every now and then a product comes along that makes you do a double take.  That's what happened to me when I heard about Rootie, a handy little tool that creates volume starting at the roots!  With claims like this, of course I had to give it a try.

How To Use Rootie

Luckily Rootie is a small, lightweight tool that is easy to use.  While heating it up to 350 degrees (which happened so quickly!) I sectioned my hair and pinned the top layer to the side.  From there I grabbed a small section and pressed my hair between the plates for a few seconds without moving.  You're left with a little crimp at the root, which creates volume!  The more sections you crimp, the more volume you'll have!

{Reviewed It} Voluminous Hair with Rootie the Rootlifter

Every now and then a product comes along that makes you do a double take.  That's what happened to me when I heard about Rootie, a handy little tool that creates volume starting at the roots!  With claims like this, of course I had to give it a try.

How To Use Rootie

Luckily Rootie is a small, lightweight tool that is easy to use.  While heating it up to 350 degrees (which happened so quickly!) Today I'm back to talk about a new haircare discovery that I just had to share with you!  And of course it's by one of my favorite brands, Hask Haircare (you can see my other Hask reviews here, here, and here!)   If you've been wanting thick, voluminous hair this new Biotin Boost Thickening Collection is definitely for you.

The Biotin Boost Thickening line has 3 key ingredients - biotin, collagen, and coffee, which help strengthen, thicken and fortify hair.  They are also free of sulfates and other unwanted ingredients.  

The shampoo and conditioner were just as amazing as I hoped they would be.  The first thing that caught my attention (and maybe my favorite thing about this line) is the scent.  It smells so amazing.  My hair felt and looked fuller after use.

The cream was a great finishing touch to the line.  It's best to start off with a small amount and add more if needed.  I straightened my hair after using the shampoo and conditioner and topped off with the cream.  When all was said and done, I was left with some added volume and bounce to my hair.  It didn't do much to help with my frizz, though it has been very humid here.  My hair was soft and shiny with no crunchiness.

A good dry shampoo can be hard to find.  When I saw that Hask haircare had a line of dry shampoos, I knew I had to give it a try.  As a huge fan of Hask Haircare (see my reviews here and here), I had high hopes and this did not disappoint!

It was a hard choice between the 4 dry shampoo options, but I chose to try the Chia Seed Volumizing Dry Shampoo (because what girl doesn't want voluminous hair?!)  In case you're curious, the other options include Argan, Charcoal Purifying (trying this next!) and Coconut.

This was really easy to use.  I sectioned off my hair, sprayed and lightly brushed out my roots.  I liked that this didn't leave a white residue like some other dry shampoos.  I tend to have oily hair, so dry shampoo can be a lifesaver, especially on the rare occasion that I straighten my hair.  I found this to last for most of the day (longer than any other dry shampoos I've tried) and it felt really lightweight on my hair.  As for volume, I can't say that it was exceptionally volumizing but I did notice a little extra bounce to my hair.  But what really drew me in was the scent; this had a light floral scent that I couldn't get enough of.

Hask dry shampoos are also free of sulfates, parabens and other unnecessary ingredients and is a cruelty free brand.  This is very important to me as I look for products that don't use chemicals and protect colored hair from fading.

Just like other Hask products, I loved the packaging.  You get a generous sized bottle all for under $10!  If you're in the market for buying a dry shampoo, I highly recommend giving this a try.  You can find them at Ulta in-store and online.

A good dry shampoo can be hard to find.  When I saw that Hask haircare had a line of dry shampoos, I knew I had to give it a try.  As a huge fan of Hask Haircare (see my reviews here and here), I had high hopes and this did not disappoint!

Today I'm excited to feature my collaboration with Concihairge, the coolest way to get your hair done.  If you follow along on Instagram, you may recognize Concihairge from last week's The Blog Connect conference (they provided an amazing braid bar!)  Aside from braids they offer an array of salon services.  The best part, you get your hair done in the comfort of your own home.  Yes - the stylists come to your house for a cut, color, updos and select treatments for you, plus cuts for your family as well (see here for all the services offered!)

This visit I opted for a blowout.  The appointment was so easy to make; I just emailed them (appointment@concihairge.com) but you can also put in an appointment request online.  I was able to get an appointment within a week.  Right now there are 3 stylists, but my blowout was with Monica.

I'm sparing you the photos from before, but trust me when I say Monica did a fabulous job!  She used a variety of tools and products to give me the prettiest soft curl with volume.  The weather was in the 90s yesterday, so she also knew that my frizz prone hair needed a little extra help and she finished off the look with hairspray and frizz protectant spray.  Monica was so sweet and fun to chat with that the time really flew by.  The entire visit was about one hour.

Monica also shared a great tip with me - let your curls cool completely before brushing them out.  That makes the curl last longer!  I can attest to that because its over 24 hours later and my blowout still has some life!

Who doesn't love having hair with a perfect curl!  Curls add dimension and volume, but for many of us it's hard to achieve that look without going to a salon.  Well, I've found a way to get that salon look in the comfort of your own home.  Today I'm excited to share a handy hair tool that every gal should own - the Tyme Iron!  I kept seeing ads for it everywhere and wanted to know if it actually worked.  Spoiler...it does!  

Before using it, I watched a lot of tutorials (check out this and this first) and even had a one-on-one FaceTime session with a Tyme stylist!  The session was really helpful because I got real time help on my technique.

Clearly you can see from the before and after photos that the Tyme Iron actually curls hair beautifully!  It takes practice, but it works.  I'm not sharing a tutorial on how the iron works since there are numerous videos out there, but I do want to share some tips on making it easier to use.

Tips For Using Tyme Iron

• The best time to curl hair is the day after washing your hair!
• Be sure to practice the angles while the heat is OFF!  It takes a while to get used to the tool!
• Make sure you're twisting the iron, not your wrist!  (It takes a lot of practice!)
• Use a heat protectant and be sure to brush to each section before curling (to smooth it and get out any knots!)
• Section your hair into smaller pieces for maximum curl!  It's also easier to control the iron.
• Don't get too close to the root.  Starting midway makes the curl look more natural.
• Once your hair is between the plates, pull gently.  Pull too hard and you may straighten your hair!
• By angling your Tyme Iron at different degrees, you affect the shape of the curl.  It's best to start with a 45 degree angle.  (once I perfect the 45 degree angle, I'll be trying some other variations!)

If you do some research, you'll see quite a few negative reviews by people who don't get the technique right away.  Don't let that discourage you from trying the Tyme Iron.  As I mentioned above, I still need a lot of practice to get the technique right.  My hair also had a bit too much product/oils, so next time I'll try after I wash my hair.

{Review} Perfect Curls with Tyme Iron

Who doesn't love having hair with a perfect curl!  Curls add dimension and volume, but for many of us it's hard to achieve that look without going to a salon.  Well, I've found a way to get that salon look in the comfort of your own home.  Today I'm excited to share a handy hair tool that every gal should own - the Tyme Iron!  I kept seeing ads for it everywhere and wanted to know if it actually worked.  Spoiler...it does!  

Before using it, I watched a lot of tutorials (check out this and this first) and even had a one-on-one FaceTime session with a Tyme stylist!  The session was really helpful because I got real time help on my technique.

Clearly you can see from the before and after photos that the Tyme Iron actually curls hair beautifully!  It takes practice, but it works.  I'm not sharing a tutorial on how the iron works since there are numerous videos out there, but I do want to share some tips on making it easier to use.

Tips For Using Tyme Iron

• The best time to curl hair is the day after washing your hair!
• Be sure to practice the angles while the heat is OFF!  It takes a while to get used to the tool!
• Make sure you're twisting the iron, not your wrist!  (It takes a lot of practice!)
• Use a heat protectant and be sure to brush to each section before curling (to smooth it and get out any knots!)
• Section your hair into smaller pieces for maximum curl!  It's also easier to control the iron.
• Don't get too close to the root.  Starting midway makes the curl look more natural.
• Once your hair is between the plates, pull gently.  Pull too hard and you may straighten your hair!
• By angling your Tyme Iron at different degrees, you affect the shape of the curl.  It's best to start with a 45 degree angle.  (once I perfect the 45 degree angle, I'll be trying some other variations!)

Kenra Snail CC Creme c/o (currently on sale!)

Every now and then a product comes along that makes me look twice.  So when I saw Kenra had a new hair product...with snail essence...I had to find out more.  I knew I liked Kenra products, and I love trying new and innovative beauty trends, so I decided to give this Snail CC Creme a try.

So what is this Snail CC Creme?
It's one of Kenra's newest products and features snail essence, a highly concentrated blend of proteins (and a Korean anti-aging beauty ingredient!)  Don't worry, no snails are harmed to make this creme!

What are the benefits of the Snail CC Cream?
The CC Cream fights 10 signs of anti-aging, which include dulling, thinning, breakage, frizz, dryness, elasticity, porosity, scalp irritation, unmanageability, and coarse texture!  It's great for all hair types and works on color treated hair.

How do you use the CC Cream?
Apply a small amount and run through damp or dry hair!  This can also be used prior to using a straightener or curling iron.

I've been using it for the past few weeks.  Most recently I used it here, and it helped with frizz and flyaways and added a glorious shine!

Overall thoughts?
I loved that the CC Cream is a lightweight formula and is easy to use.  It's perfect for all hair types, including color treated hair, which is a huge plus.  The creme doesn't weigh hair down, but reduces frizz and adds shine!  For someone with curly hair, this may not be the best option to define curls.  The creme does have a pleasant light scent.  Something else I especially loved is the dispenser because it doesn't allow too much product to come out at once.  I will be keeping this in my bag for emergencies because it's perfect for everyday use!

I recommend checking out Kenra's new Snail CC Creme.  This innovative creme is the first hair care product to include snail essence.  It may be a little pricey, but a little goes a long way!
