Paint The Town Chic: Events
Events
It's that time of year - the Philly Flower Show is back in town! This is my fifth year attending and this  past weekend, I got a peek at what makes this show so special.

First off, the theme, Riviera Holiday, immediately piqued my interest. But once I walked though the exhibit floor, I could see how the experience is reminiscent of a European vacation. The displays are understated, whereas in previous years the main exhibits were over the top and flashier. I personally loved the elegant and minimalist designs of Riviera Holiday.

Once you get over the smaller main exhibits and floor space, you can truly appreciate the thought that went into putting this show together. Something that was new this year was the use of scent in the displays. Near the front of the exhibit hall was a beautiful walkway, but the joyful and refreshing citrus scent is what really drew me in. In fact, the use of citrus elements throughout the show was a win for me!
One of my favorites displays was "La strade della Cinque Terre." This colorful design is inspired by ancient Italian fisherman who painted their homes in bold colors. Cinque Terre is at the top of my list of places to visit someday.
Another draw was the display created in memory of Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco, one of Philly's own celebrities! Included was the replica of her wedding dress as well as 3,000 roses, Grace Kelly's favorite flower, along with other memorabilia!

A theme that was more prevalent throughout the show this year was sustainability. One exhibit in particular, The Lemonary, was created with sustainability in mind and elements of the display will also be reused in PHS gardens around Philadelphia once the show is over.
I particularly loved the nods to art, such as in these displays, as well.

Every display and exhibit at the Flower Show is part of a competition. PHS offers classes like art made from pressed flowers, and the creations made by these artists are also on display. It's amazing to see what they came up with and it's inspired me to take a class like that in the future.
This year's show highlights a different side of floral design and landscape architecture. I was in awe of the beautiful creations on display and the whole experience reminded me of how much I want to go on a European holiday.

If you get a chance to visit this year's PHS Flower Show, I highly recommend checking it out. The show runs until March 8 and all information, such as hours and ticket prices, can be found on their website.

Special thanks to PHS for inviting me to preview the Flower Show. All opinions shared above are my own.

Galentine's Day is the one day of the year dedicated to celebrating our gal pals! There are so many ways to celebrate, but if you're looking for something other than brunch or happy hour (though I do love those), keep reading for a round-up of unique girls night out ideas for Galentine's Day and beyond!

PaddyWax Candle Bar
Paddywax candle making
Have you ever made a candle? If not, book a party right away because this is such a fun experience. From picking your scent, to selecting a reusable vessel for your candle, there is no detail that is forgotten. The instructor guides you through every step, so this activity is great for anyone.

If you're in Philly, schedule your class at the Center City location and use code PhillyFriends to get 15% off!

Painting With A Twist
Painting With A Twist Paint Night
If you haven't tried Painting With A Twist, you're in for a treat! You don't have to be an artist to enjoy this BYOB event. They have all different kinds of paintings, so definitely check out their site to see what's coming up.

Theater Night at the Kimmel Center
Kimmel Center Mean Girls theater show
I recently had the opportunity to see Mean Girls at the Kimmel Center, and what a fun experience that was. I hadn't been to a show since high school and forgot how fun it is. I will for sure be attending more theater performances, and hoping to make it to Broadway this year as well.

Philly's arts scene is pretty substantial, and another event I want to check out is the First Person Arts Valentine’s Day Ex-Files story slam!

Founding Footsteps Tour
Founding Footsteps Trolley Tour
Being a tourist in your own city can be fun, but what's even better is a BYOB tour that shares facts that even a seasoned Philadelphian may not know. Over the holiday, I got a preview of the seasonal lights tour and it was so fun to see the different neighborhoods all lit up. Founding Footsteps has new tours every season, so be sure to check out their schedule to see what's coming up.

Flower Arranging

Crafting has clearly become a theme here, but the Craft Haus flower arranging class was such a blast. Not only do you learn tips from the experts, you get to take home your work of art! I've also done Plant Nite and similar events that encourage my plant obsession.
Looking for more ideas? What about trying a new workout class or volunteering at a local non-profit? A cooking class would be fun too. Maybe even creating custom makeup (I've been dying to make my own Bite Beauty lippie!)

What are your favorite girl's night activities?

The grand opening of Photo Pop Philly last week was a reminder that summer is just around the corner! After having a blast last year (see the review here), I had high hopes for this year's show. I luckily had a sneak preview of this year's sweet exhibit and I loved every moment of it.
Photo Pop Philly is a pop-up exhibit is in its second year, and is filled with Instagrammable art and installations created by Philly artists. The theme, Sweet Paradise, is evident as soon as you step foot into the gorgeous gallery.
My favorite exhibit was this colorful flamingo beauty by Tori Alexandra. I mean, you really can't go wrong when a swing is involved. I really loved the interactivity of the exhibits, like this swing, which made the  experience so much more memorable!
This is the closest I've gotten to Gritty! This display is made entirely from jelly beans!
This year, Photo Pop is giving back to the community as well! I always appreciate a brand that does this. At the end of the season, Photo Pop will be auctioning off 10 pieces of artwork and proceeds will benefit Chop's Art and Music Therapy program!
Whether you're a Philly local, or just visiting, I definitely recommend a visit to Photo Pop. And bonus, it's located inside The Bourse, a fun food venue that's been recently renovated.
We were spoiled with some sweet treats during the grand opening. Cupcakes by Ruth are some of my favorites - try them, you won't regret it! Also, if you're looking to host private party this summer, the venue is available and would make a great backdrop for an event.

There is so much more to see and do at Photo Pop. The exhibit is open until August 24th, and you can find out other details here. If you've been, I'd love to know what your favorite exhibit was!

It's been a week since I attended my first BeautyCon in NYC and it was such a fun experience! BeautyCon is a 2 day beauty expo where you can meet brands, try samples, listen to panel discussions, take all the Insta-worthy photos and shop, shop, shop!

I spent about 2 hours on Saturday and 5 hours on Sunday checking out the event. I did not take full advantage of everything that was available, but I still had a great time. Because of the large venue and amount of vendors, it's best to come up with a game plan of places you absolutely want to check out first. For me, I wanted to check out brands I had never tried/heard of and spots with cute Insta-worthy displays.

Saturday I was on a time constraint so I mostly scanned the expo and checked out some lines that were moving quickly. The first booth I hit up was Aveda. How can you go wrong with a cherry tree display + a swing?! Aveda gave trial samples of their Cherry Almond body wash and lotion (which smell amazing in case you were wondering!)
Next I got an application of these Llui Llui gel nail stickers. They were so easy to apply and there was such a cute collection of colors/prints. BeautyCon was the brand's debut so it was exciting to be one of the first to try them out.
After getting the lay of the land, I was more strategic on Sunday. I really wanted to get my hair done by Sexy Hair, so that was at the top of my list. I loved the cute festival styles they were doing. The line was long and slow but they did a great job. In addition to their cute styling station, they were giving full sized glitter hair sprays, which are a fun festival/summer detail.
I quickly browsed some of the other booths. Target has such a cute display based on astrological signs (I'm a sucker for that) and were giving out clear shoppers. Love Beauty Planet (one of my fav brands) had the coolest display where if you recycled anything, they gave you a free product and tote. I was curious about Sol de Janeiro (I've heard great things about their Bum Bum Cream) and they were giving out little samples.

I was actually surprised by some of the large brands that didn't give anything out. Overall, I thought most brands were going for the Instagrammable moments/photo opps rather than product.

Interested in attending this type of event, but don't know what to expect? While this my first time attending an expo as a guest, a few years ago I volunteered at GenIpsy and I worked both The Well Summit and FounderMade while at a previous job. I've picked up a few tips here and there and wanted to share them with you.
Tips For Navigating Expos

Attend the first day of the expo for the best bang for your buck.
The best deals/giveaways/samples will be available on the first day. I know brands that were giving our product on the first day were not doing so on Sunday. Additionally, I noticed another brand have games to win product on Saturday and Sunday they were strictly selling.

Bring a friend!
This was the first time that I went solo and while I still had a good time, I didn't enjoy everything, especially all of the amazing photo opps, as much as I would've if I went with a friend.

Don't wear heels.
Of course you want to look cute, but heels are not the best option to spend an 8 hour day on concrete floors.

If you're looking for free product, hit up the big brands first.
Brands like Maybelline, CVS, and Sally Beauty were giving out free product whereas smaller brands were not. Be prepared for the long lines though.

But, experiences are worth more.
Samples/product is great, but things that you can't buy elsewhere are worth more in my opinion! I loved getting my hair done by Sexy and I noticed another brand doing the cutest caricatures! Again, the lines were super long, but I would recommend hitting these experiences first.

People are going to sell to you.
I knew that this was going to be true for many of the booths I visited. I had the worst experience with one of the hair tool brands that was at BeautyCon. The man I was speaking with literally had a hissy fit when I didn't immediately buy a $300 straightener that he tried to sell me after after curling 2 pieces of hair, so he stomped off. So unprofessional, and I don't think I'd buy from this brand no matter how good their product is. This was a rare occurrence, but keep in mind that many of booths are only there to sell product.

Be polite.
This is such a simple thing, but I can't tell you how many times I came across a rude attendee. Kindness goes a long way and may even get you more freebies.

Feel free to comment below, email me or DM me on Insta if you have any other questions! If you've attended an expo before, I'd love to know your thoughts!

Thanks to BeautyCon for having me as a guest! All opinions shared above are my own.

Call me old, but these days I enjoy quiet nights over bar hopping. Luckily, there are so many things to do in Philly for a perfect girls night out that don't require a bar to have fun. I recently tried one of those activities, a crafting class hosted by CraftHaus events. In this class, we learned what goes into making a gorgeous bouquet and even tried our hand at it.

Obviously I was sold as soon as I saw the event involved flowers. Included in the class were all materials, snacks, and a fun photo booth by The Yellow Mirror!
The class started off with a quick demo and tips on what makes a bouquet come together.  I learned that there are 4 elements that all bouquets should have - greens, fluff, something strange, and flowers.

It was fun to see how different all of the bouquets were at the end of the event.
The event took place at Bok, my first time in the building.  There is a popular bar in the building as well which opens up for the summer.  Even though I said bar hopping wasn't my thing, this is a venue that I'm actually looking forward to checking out in the coming weeks!
Not only do they host classes around the area, they also do private events.  Ladies, this is a game changer for parties and special events.  I can't wait to attend future Crafthaus events.

Special thanks to Crafthaus Events for inviting me to this event. All thoughts shared above are my own.

Philadelphia Flower Show 2019
Earlier this month, I was invited to preview the 2019 Philly Flower show (read the preview post here) and I loved it enough that I had to go back for a proper visit. This was my fourth Flower Show and while the show floor seemed smaller than in previous years, I was blown away by the creative displays. There were 2 attractions that really captured my attention - the Flower Power theme and the FTD "World Cup" competition.
The main Flower Power displays were some of my favorites. The colors were so vibrant and the displays captured the magic of the era!
Walking around, I found gems like this fun wall as well!

Something I learned is that every display in the show is part of a competition. There was quite a variety of work created by students using plants in different formats. Hats, jewelry, pressed flower art; so many creative things. I especially enjoyed these hats - which one would you wear?
A few more pieces that caught my eye. This honey comb had actual honeybees!
And here are two of my favorite displays from the "World Cup" competition!
But of course I went to see the flowers and I was not disappointed. I always look forward to seeing the tulips, and I have a special spot in my heart for orange flowers.
Have I mentioned all the fun walls scattered throughout the show. These were some of my favorite Instaworthy spots (and believe me, there were many!)
The show may be over, but I'm already excited to find out what next year's theme will be! Did you attend the Flower Show this year? What exhibits did you love?

Happy March dolls! We're one step closer to spring, but it sure didn't feel springy today with yet another snowstorm. I did however get a sneak peek of this year's annual PHS Flower Show, which is an event I look forward to every year.

The Philly Flower Show is a famous local event; famous because people literally travel from all over the world to attend this 8 day show! I've gone for the past 3 years (check out previous recaps here and here) and knew that I wasn't missing out on this year's show.
My interest was piqued when I heard about the theme - Flower Power. I really loved how the theme tied into this main display.
However there is plenty more to see in the 10 acre show floor! Something I learned on my tour was that every display is part of a competition. It was an amazing experience to see the designers putting together their displays live as part of the FTD "World Cup" competition.
I'm all for interactive exhibits, and another exhibit that I really loved was The Mindful Minute which involved the different senses. This was also one of the most Instagrammable exhibits!
I didn't get a chance to see the entire show, so I'm planning to go again! I can't wait to see everything, including the exhibits that were part of this morning's competition!

The show runs from March 2-10. Hours and ticketing info can be found on their website. Are you headed to the show this week? If so, I'd love to hear what you think!

Special thanks to the PHS for letting me check out the Flower Show today!
